Practice makes perfect.
How tired are you of hearing that? Unfortunately, it’s true. And at Loyola, we’ll push you past perfection. Our music performance program will sharpen your skills in your preferred genre as well as challenge you to become competent in others. That way, your artistic voice is not just proficient—it’s uniquely explored, informed, and realized.
Undergraduate Degree Programs
Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance
The guitar department at Loyola offers one-on-one lessons with an accomplished professor of guitar, both in jazz and classical concentrations. At the end of each semester, guitar students perform in Classical Guitar Night, where students are able to perform collaborative and solo works.
Bachelor of Music in Orchestral Instrument Performance (Winds + Percussion)
All wind and percussion students study privately with Loyola University faculty, who are selected from the finest musicians New Orleans has to offer and are extremely active performers and educators in local, national, and international venues.
Bachelor of Music in Keyboard Performance (Piano + Organ)
The Keyboard Department offers professional training for students seeking a career in the performance and/or teaching areas. We offer many performance opportunities throughout the year in our concert halls, where we host two Steinway concert grands and a Bössendorfer imperial grand.

Minor in Music (Vocal or Instrumental)
Our minor is excellent for students with an active music background interested in continuing their studies and private lessons.
In addition to intensive study in music theory, music history, and solo and ensemble performance, students in this program complete a minor, or even a second major in another field. This can prepare you for a career in music—but it also offers you the flexibility to go onto medical and law school.

A look (and a listen).
The Orchestral Studies and String Area at Loyola University offers several opportunities for anyone interested in an excellent orchestral experience through our ensembles.
The jazz bands offer vocalists and instrumentalists an opportunity to perform music in the popular and jazz idioms along with study of arranging and techniques of improvisation. Both Jazz Band and Jazz Workshop Band are open to all University students by audition.
The band department houses two large ensembles: the University Band and the Wind Ensemble:
The Concert Band focuses equally upon standard large band repertoire along with carefully selected transcriptions. Membership in this ensemble is open to all university students by audition.
The Wind Ensemble is a highly selective student ensemble performing standard and contemporary wind repertoire suited to the reduced instrumentation of the ensemble. Membership is by audition.
A music teacher possesses a love of music and the desire to help others experience that connection.
