Bio
Dr. Macie Sweet is an Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Loyola
New Orleans. She previously completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Notre
Dame.
Her research focuses on medieval Christian thought and history with emphases on monasticism,
liturgical manuscripts and ritual practice, Christian mysticism, and the role of the body and affect
in medieval devotional practices. Her current project examines how the five senses, and especially
hearing, play a formative role in the thought and writings of Bernard of Clairvaux and 12 th
century Cistercian identity more broadly.
Dr. Sweet completed her Ph.D. in Theology at the University of Notre Dame specializing in
history of Christianity and liturgical studies.
