To access your class files from any Macintosh computer in the School of Mass
Communication building (including our classroom):
• Log-in on any computer using the same user name and password as you
use in the classroom
• Your files should be in there where you saved them the last time you logged in
To turn in finished project files from any Mac computer in the School of Mass
Communication building (including our classroom):
• Log-in on any computer with your user name and password
• A folder appears on the launcher bar at the bottom right of the screen
called Digital Communication (or class you are taking in the SMC).
• Double click on the folder to open it
• Double click and open the Public Folder
• Drag and drop finished project files and/or folders to the instructor's Drop Folder icon
• Say OK to the message saying you will not be able to see the files after
you drop them in the folder.
There isn't a good way to confirm that you have successfully turned in your project since you cannot see the contents of the drop folder. However, if you didn't get any messages other than the one noted above, your project is most likely safe and sound.
To access your class files, or turn in project files, from any Mac computer on the
campus network (like the Library):
• Select from the Finder pulldown menu: Go>Connect to Server...
• For the server address, type in: masscomm.loyno.edu
• At the log-in screen, type in the same user name and password as you
use in the classroom
• Several volumes on this server appear. Choose the volume with your user name on it
• Click 'connect'
• This shared volume called Mass Communication appears either as a drive icon on the desktop, orin your navigation window on the left side under ">Shared". Double click to open it. The folders inside include documents, etc. If you saved things on the desktop, you will find those files in the folder called "Desktop."
• Saving work to these folders also saves them so you can retrieve them on a classroom computer later.
• Be sure to 'unmount' the server folder when you are finished. You do this
by clicking the disconnect icon on the left next to the server name, or highlight the server name and click the disconnect button to the right.

by dragging the server icon to the trash can. For PC users, don't worry.
You aren't actually dumping your work in the trash.
FYI: You can also access your server folder over an Internet connection from off
campus with a Mac or PC by using a 'SFTP' program. If you are interested in this,
we can walk through the details sometime in class.
