Dr. M.L. “Cissy” Petty

Dr. Petty is the Vice President for Student Affairs and Associate Provost.

The Vice President for Student Affairs and Associate Provost provides leadership for the development of programs and services that enhance both the curricular and co-curricular student experience.  The Division of Student Affairs includes the areas of Residence Life, Dining Services, Co-Curricular Programming, including Leadership Training and Orientation, Bookstore, Career Services, Health Services, Counseling, Athletics and Wellness.

Dr. Petty’s undergraduate degree is in Criminology and Psychology.  She completed her Ph.D in Higher Education Administration with an emphasis on Student Development.  Cissy was also selected for a post-doctoral fellowship as the Distinguished Scholar in Counseling; selected for Harvard’s senior institutional management program; and completed her executive leadership coaching certificate work at Georgetown University.

Prior to joining Loyola University, Dr. Petty was the Vice President and Dean of Students for Co-Curricular Education and Programming, and held an Assistant Professor of Counseling appointment at St. Lawrence University.  Her accomplishments at St. Lawrence included the creation of the University Leadership Academy, the completion of a 15 M new Student Center, 6M new Residence Hall, 3M renovated Health and Counseling Center, 7M in Residence Hall renovations.

She writes and publishes in areas of leadership coaching, development.  She currently serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Professional Counseling, and is a book reviewer for the Association of Leadership Coaching in England.  Her presentations are numerous at the national level regarding higher education administration and student development program implementation.  She consults for a variety of non-profit leaders in both business and hospital administration.

Currently, Cissy is focused on the following goals for Student Affairs at Loyola University:  Evaluate and Reorganize Student Health Services; Evaluate and Reorganize Residential Life; Increased focus on Co-curricular programming and education; Evaluation of Danna Center Services, including the Bookstore and Dining Services; Evaluate and Reorganize Career and Counseling Services; Evaluate and Reorganize Athletics and Recreation.

Dr. Petty’s work with the Trustees is primarily through the committees of Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and Building and Grounds.
