ABOUT THE AGENCY
Hagar's House is a sanctuary for women and children in New Orleans that provides a residential community, resource assistance, and a safe place to transition into permanent housing. Hagar's House is a program of First Grace United Methodist Church and its associated nonprofit, First Grace Community Alliance.
WHAT YOU DO
Service learners at Hagar's House may participate in the following:
- Facilitate activities with the children at Hagar's House;
- Facilitating a poetry writing & sharing group.
Because of the varying and sometimes unexpected needs of our community, service learning students will also probably be asked to help with tasks outside of the above at times-- these could include assisting with office work, events & fundraising, yard work, etc.
WHAT YOU LEARN
Loyola service learning students will learn about house residents and their stories. Service learning students are welcome to attend our weekly social justice movie screenings & discussions on topics like feminism, race & gender.
