Taking more than one service learning class?

Learning objective: Students will gain a deeper understanding of domestic violence (types, causes, effects, effective prevention) by providing volunteer support to agencies which are working with people affected by violence or advocating for violence reduction and prevention.

Students may complete a service learning placement at one of these preapproved agencies:

APEX Youth Center
New Orleans Family Justice Center
Orleans Public Defenders (requires up to 40 hours)

What about other agencies?

As an alternative to one of these service learning placements, students may participate in one of two special projects: (1) creating and distributing Easter baskets to children living in shelters and transitional homes, or (2) working in conjunction with the Women's Resource Center to publicize and grow the Sexual Assault Response Advocacy Initiative.

How to get started

  1. Watch the video Getting Started with Your Service Learning Placement and then take the online quiz.
  2. Document all your hours using a service learning timesheet. Submit timesheets to the service learning office twice per semester (midterm and last day of the semester). Check the Loyola Service Learning Calendar for deadlines.
  3. Know that your agency supervisor will submit a performance evaluation on your work at the end of the semester. This evaluation will be given to your professor and incorporated into your class grade. See a sample evaluation>>
