The Room Draw Process
THE BASICS: What You Need to Know in a Nutshell
- The housing selection process is now called "Room Draw."
This is the opportunity for all current Loyola students to choose where they live on campus next year. Students participating in Room Draw receive priority room selection over new incoming students. - You may register for Room Draw either as an individual or as a member of a group.
All Room Draw participants must complete the Individual Priority Worksheet. Additionally, if you plan to sign-up for your room with a group of friends, you must identify a Group Representative and submit a Group Priority Worksheet along with all individual Room Draw materials. Groups will select their rooms first, followed by individuals. - Simple and Exact Room/Roommate Selection.
At Room Draw you (or your Group Representative) will see exactly which rooms, suites, and apartments are available in real time. You may choose any room, suite, or apartment that suits the number of applicants in your group, and groups will identify exactly who will live in which bed space within the room. - Single Rooms will be Granted Only for Verified Medical Situations.
Due to the demand for on-campus living, especially in Carrollton Hall, no single rooms will be granted on main campus other than legitimate and verified medical situations. All other students should plan to take a roommate, and it is preferable that you select and sign-up with that person as part of a group. Cabra Hall will continue to be sold as singles, and Residential Life will be compiling a "Single Requested" list for upperclass students who sign-up to live in Biever & Buddig Halls. Individual applicants who opt into a room without a roommate will either be assigned a roommate or will be charged for a single room in the Fall. - All Freshmen and Sophomores are required to live on campus.
All of these students should register for Room Draw, as Loyola University's Sophomore Residency Requirement mandates that you to live on campus. Exceptions are made only for those students from the New Orleans Metropolitan area who live at their parents' permanent, local address. Current Freshmen and rising Sophomores who do not register for housing for the next academic year will be assigned housing after priority registration is complete.
The updated priority registration process is designed to give preference to residents who have lived in the residence halls for longer than those who have not. Because we are part of an academic institution, the process has also been designed to reward students who have performed consistently well in their academic pursuits, and who actively participate in their residential community.
The process assigns applicants points based on their class rank (Sophomore, Junior, Senior, etc.), cumulative GPA, and the number of consecutive semesters that a student has lived in the residence halls. Additional points are awarded to those students who have a clean conduct record.
The points from these categories are totaled to create a 'point' total for each individual who is applying for housing. Individuals with higher scores will be granted higher priority in selecting their housing assignments. Group point totals are a simple sum of the the individual point totals of all group members.
There may be a higher demand for certain types of rooms than there are rooms available, so applicants should consider their 'backup plan' in case their first preference is not available.
Please read the following section very carefully, as it outlines significant changes to the Room Draw process for Spring 2009.
ROOMS AVAILABLE BASED ON GROUP SIZE:
Groups of 6 may compete for: Two 6-person suites in Carrollton Hall.
Groups of 5 may compete for: Twelve 5-person apartments and two 5-person suites, all in Carrollton Hall.
Groups of 4 may compete for: Two 4-person apartments in Carrollton Hall, or any other regular suite in Carrollton Hall, Cabra Hall, or Buddig Hall.
Groups of 3 may compete for: Two 3-person apartments in Carrollton Hall.
Groups of 2 may compete for: Any regular room in Buddig Hall or Biever Hall (Note: Groups of 2 may compete for individual rooms within the suites of Carrollton Hall only after all larger groups have been accommodated).
Individuals may sign-up for any available bed space in Cabra Hall, Biever Hall, or Buddig Hall, with the understanding that roommates/suitemates will be assigned to you by Residential Life. Individuals may only compete for Carrollton Hall suites after all other groups have been accommodated.
**Any resident student who ends up in Biever Hall or Buddig Hall with no roommate as of the first day of classes in Fall 2009 will be charged for their single room. Any bedspace that becomes available in Carrollton Hall after Room Draw will be filled with a new roommate/suitemate. No Carrollton Hall room will be sold as a single.
Who Can Participate in Room Draw?
The Room Draw process is for current Loyola students only. Preference will be given to students who are currently living on campus. Students who miss Room Draw or are not eligible to participate may apply for housing, and their application will be taken into consideration after all other Room Draw participants have been assigned.

Proxy Registration
GROUPS: If you are attending Room Draw as a member of a group, your Group Representative may automatically serve as your Proxy in the event that a suitable group room cannot be identified. There is no need to specify a separate Proxy if you do not wish.
INDIVIDUALS: If other commitments preclude you from attending Room Draw for any reason, a friend may attend Room Draw in your place and select your room for you! You must complete a Proxy Form and send it to Room Draw with your Proxy at YOUR assigned registration time. The Proxy Form will let us know who is coming in your place and must include both of your signatures. Your Proxy will need to provide photo ID and the signed Proxy Form upon arrival.
If your Proxy arrives without photo ID or all completed and signed paperwork, they will NOT be able to select your housing for you.
Please note that any student serving as a Proxy must wait until their own assigned time to register themselves for housing.
Single Room Availability
Do to an anticipated increase in the size of the incoming Freshman class, and Loyola's recently implemented Sophomore Year residency requirement, single rooms will be extremely limited in this year's Room Draw process**. Beyond legitimate medical accommodations, students returning to housing should plan to live with a roommate. If you do not have a roommate in mind already, Residential Life is able to assign you one as Housing Applications are received.
Students who choose to sign-up for a room in Biever Hall or Buddig Hall by themselves will be assigned a roommate by Residential Life.
**Note that Cabra Hall will be sold exclusively as singles, and there are a limited number of 'true' single rooms available in the Carrollton Hall apartments.
Medical Requests and Special Housing Accommodations
Students who believe that they have special circumstances or medical needs that require an accommodation (such as a single room or ADA compliant room) may request a housing accommodation. The student must submit a completed Housing Accommodation Form, which should include supporting documentation from a physician, or from the appropriate Loyola office (University Counseling Center, Student Health, or Academic Resource Center). Medical accommodation requests must be submitted with other Room Draw forms to the Residential Life Office in Biever Hall by the Room Draw Registration Deadline (Tuesday, March 17 at 4:00 PM). Requests will be honored based on need and space availability.
Late requests will be accepted, but priority housing selection can only be accommodated if your request is submitted on time.
Medical accommodation requests must include the Housing Accommodation Form, a completed Housing Contract, your Individual Priority Worksheet, and supporting documentation from a medical professional. All requests will be reviewed by appropriate University personnel before final decisions will be made.

Loyola is proud to offer even more living/learning options next year! All LCs will be housed in Buddig Hall for the 2009-2010 academic year. You may choose from:
- Faith/Justice
- Honors
- International Experience
- Wellness

Meal Plan Requirement
All full or part-time residential students will be required to participate in a meal plan for the entire academic year. As we move toward a more residentially-centered campus, meal plans free students from the day-to-day worries of how to eat a healthy, balanced meal, leaving students to concentrate more fully on their academic pursuits and extracurricular interests.
Freshmen and Sophomores who live on campus must purchase at least a 12 meals/wk dining plan.
Juniors and Seniors who live on campus must purchase at least $500 in Wolfbucks, for use at dining centers at both Loyola and Tulane.
Transfer students are subject to the above requirements, based on their class standing.
For more information about campus dining and for meal plan pricing, please visit Dining Services.
In addition to more meal plan choices, students will benefit from extended hours of operation and the ability to use their Wolf Bucks at select Tulane University facilities.
