Packing For Loyola
While packing for your new home away from home, it is important to consider a few things regarding the climate and space in your room. Remember that the weather is typically hot and humid and usually does not turn cool until the beginning of December. Therefore, you may decide to leave most of your winter clothing at home until Thanksgiving or semester break. Additionally, keep in mind that your room contains two sets of furniture and is equipped to house two students and their belongings. Due to the size of your room we suggest that initially you bring only what is necessary. We have compiled a list of items that you may wish to bring and other items that you must leave at home. Review the suggested items and decide what is best for you to bring to your new home away from home. See you soon!

You cannot bill calls to your room or accept collect calls. In addition, each phone line is equipped with voicemail for you and your roommate. - LOYOLA EXPRESS CARD
An essential item for every Loyola student is the student ID, called the Loyola Express Card. This card will debit meal plans or cash card transactions, debit money for vending and laundry, and let you gain access to the residence halls and recreational facilities. Students are required to carry their Express Cards with them at all times. - PARKING
(See LUPD - Loyola University Police Department webpage for updated information) - COOKING, REFRIGERATORS, AND MICROWAVES
Cooking is only permitted in the kitchen area of each residence hall. Because of this, microwaves (except Cabra) and other cooking appliances should be left at home. Microfridges (refrigerator and microwave combination) may be purchased or rented from a variety of companies. - CLEANING AND REPAIRS
Students are responsible for cleaning their own rooms and common areas (except the bathrooms of Biever and Cabra Halls). Maintenance requests should be reported to the RAs or front desks.

Meet The Residential Life Staff
When you arrive at Loyola, take the opportunity to become acquainted with these people:
- RESIDENT ASSISTANTS
Your resident assistant, usually referred to as an RA, is an upper-class student who lives on your floor and can help you learn about and adjust to life at Loyola. RAs are trained to help acquaint residents with one another, listen, answer questions, organize floor functions, mediate conflicts, enforce policies, and be a friend. When you arrive, introduce yourself to your RA. Youll be glad you did! - DESK ASSISTANTS
The front desk in each Loyola residence hall is staffed with desk assistants, usually referred to as DAs. These students provide customer service to residents, help maintain security in the residence hall, regulate visitation, welcome guests, answer questions, and check out vacuums and keys to piano practice rooms. - RESIDENT CHAPLAINS
Priests, nuns, and ministers live throughout the residence halls and can assist with your transition to Loyola and enhance spiritual growth and development. Feel free to contact and become acquainted with them. The resident chaplains host programs and provide personal counseling for the residents. - RESIDENCE HALL COUNCILS
Residence Hall Councils provide you with an opportunity to become involved in your new living environment. Each council is given a yearly budget, and is composed only of students from the residence hall. The Residence hall Councils are dedicated to planning activities and enhancing residence hall facilities and policies. We welcome your involvement and encourage you to watch for election information the first week of classes.
