Toys: Wood in Playful Form

Within this course students will be introduced to the concepts of kinetic design, a burgeoning field within the visual arts that places an importance on the aesthetics of movement, beginning with demonstrations and the creation of simple kinetic toys that explore traditional forms of playful mechanical movements. Each assignment is designed to progress in complexity and heighten the students problem-solving abilities by introducing them to challenges that are specific to this form of 3-Dimensional construction. In addition, students will gain a basic knowledge of wood and the tools and techniques required to manipulate this versatile building material.
