Parents Council in second year
The Loyola Parents Council is currently in its second year. Created by The Office of the Annual Fund, the committee helps boost parent and volunteer involvement. The council is an initiative of University President Kevin Wm. Wildes, S.J.
Currently comprised of 12 family groups from around the country, the council is designed to provide opportunities and resources to enhance student satisfaction and quality of life.
The group met for its 2007-2008 kick-off meeting on Saturday, September 29, 2007 to discuss how to increase parent giving, strengthen parent and volunteer presence at a national level, and serve as a resource for other parents. Council Members heard from Father Wildes and Vice President for Student Affairs and Associate Provost Cissy Petty about upcoming initiatives involving student life and how parents can help in the recruitment of the Class of 2012.
The Parents Council is an asset to the needs of many divisions on campus, including institutional advancement, student affairs, and admissions. The group will help with new student send-off parties, serve as a new resource for prospective students, and help promote the university nationally.
Parent gifts are a key component of The Loyola Fund. Thanks to the generous annual fund support of parents in recent years, the Monroe Library has been able to create innovative student-centered programs such as the Laptop Loan program, the Virtual Reference “Ask a Librarian” Program, and the Information Literacy Living Room and Lab. Moreover, it currently ranks as the sixth best college library in the country by The Princeton Review.
Increasing parent participation is a primary focus of the 2007-2008 Parents Council. This year our goal is for 16 percent of Loyola parents to participate in The Loyola Fund.
