ACTION ALERT: LOUISIANA

Right now, Congressional Republicans are discussing a repeal of the Affordable Care Act without an adequate replacement. If they move forward they will be jeopardizing coverge for hundreds of thousands of Louisianans and putting our state's financial future on shaky ground. We simply CANNOT afford a repeal of the ACA without knowing what will replace it.

Please take a minute to call Senator Bill Cassidy and Senator John Kennedy today to tell them why affordable health insurance is important to your and our state, and urge them not to repeal the ACA without an immediate replacement.

Senator Cassidy's Office: (202) 224-5824
Senatory Kennedy's Office: (202) 224-4623

We encourage you to insert a personal story of you or someone you know who has been helped by the ACA. Or, use some of these talking points:

  • Repealing the ACA without an immediate replacement means that 570,000 Louisianans would be left uninsured!

    • More than 200,000 Louisianans have purchased insurance plans on the federal marketplace and and receive income-based financial assistance to make their healthcare plans affordable

    • More than 370,000 low-income Louisianans recently gained access to affordable health care after the Governor expanded Medicaid this year.

  • Repealing the ACA would be a disaster for Louisiana's already dire budget situation.

    • The state stands to lose $26.7 billion in federal funding over the next 10 years with ACA repeal, not to mention rising costs of uncompensated care for the uninsured.

    • We would lose an estimated 37,000 health care jobs in our state and $39.1 billion in business output with repeal of Medicaid expansion alone.

Finally, after you've called, please email us at JSRI@loyno.edu to let us know what you heard!
