How to Create and Publish Individual Web Pages
Guidelines:
- Web publishing services are provided for the Loyola community. All pages must adhere to the university web page policies.
- Pages that represent official university information can be linked from the main web pages. All pages linked from the university web page are generally created and published by the Office of Publications.
- Non-linked pages are available to Loyola departments, organizations and individuals and are accessed as http://www.loyno.edu/~acctname. They are located in the public_html subdirectory on nadal (beta) of the account associated with the specific department, organization or individual.
- The initial page must be called index.html
To create and publish linked web pages:
- Linked pages are created in the Office of Publications.
- You can contact the Director of Publication to discuss your requirements. Please gather all relevant materials and ideas to simplify the content design and layout. You can visit other university web pages to get an idea about what is in common practice.
- The publications staff will create your web pages and review them with you to ensure that they meet your needs. When you are mutually satisfied, publications will publish your information on the university web site and in the quick search index pages.
To create non-linked web pages:
- Pages can be created on desktop computers using most current word processors, Microsoft Word, Corel WordPerfect, etc.; special web page editors: Netscape Composer, Adobe PageMill, WebWeaver, Microsoft Explorer; or any editor that will produce a simple text file. Netscape Composer is perhaps one of the easiest programs to use. It is included as part of Netscape Communicator 4 package for both mac and intel computers
- Pages can be created either on an Intel based computer or on a Macintosh.
- You can locate and download free and shareware html editors from archive sites such as winfiles.com, tucows or download.com.
To publish non-linked web pages:
- Pages must be located in your public_html subdirectory on nadal/beta. The home-page must be named index.html.
- After using Netscape Composer to create your web pages, you can use the publish command under the File menu to transfer files from your local computer to Nadal. Selecting publish will bring up a window that contains space for you to provide details about where the pages should be transferred. The following fields must be filled in: Page Title (the title of the page), HTML Filename (the name to be referenced when calling up this page), HTTP or FTP location (use the following - ftp://nadal.loyno.edu/home/spemail/acctname/public_html where acctname is your account name), User name (your account name ? how you log in), Password (your password). There is also an area where you can specify additional pages you want to move.
- Once the files are on nadal, you and others can access them using http://www.loyno.edu/~acctname.
