Co-Curricular Activities

The Honors Program sponsors many cultural events both on and off campus, including excursions to the opera, the symphony, the theater, and art museums. Faculty who are experts in the particular cultural activity often accompany us or present introductory programs to honors students to give larger context and meaning to the experience.  We also schedule community service projects, and make available to Honors students information about other opportunities for community service. All of these co-curricular activities are optional, but most Honors students choose to participate in at least some of the programs.

All Honors students are members of the University Honors Association (UHA), a student organization that advises the Director on curriculum and other academic matters, participates with faculty on the University Honors Advisory Board, publishes a newsletter, coordinates the mentoring program, and plans co-curricular activities and programs.

As a member of the National Collegiate Honors Council, the Southern Regional Honors Council, and the Louisiana Collegiate Honors Council, the Loyola University Honors Program provides the opportunity for Honors students to participate in national, regional, and state honors conferences, at which they can present papers, attend workshops, participate in the College Quiz Bowl, and interact with honors students at other universities.

Honors students can also elect to live in the Honors Living Unit on the eleventh floor of Buddig Hall.  In 2005, they dubbed themselves the Eleventh Floor Nation and had XI, or "chi iota" T-shirts made to proclaim their affiliation.
