Center for the Study of New Orleans

Mission Statement

The Center for the Study of New Orleans promotes scholarship that engages the key cultural, social, economic, scientific, historical, and political questions facing the Crescent City. Informed by the premise that understanding New Orleans is to understand the challenges confronted by all urban centers in the twenty-first century, it particularly encourages intellectual pursuits that place the city within an interdisciplinary and comparative framework and that yield conclusions of both local and global relevance. Addressing a core element of Loyola’s strategic plan, the Center for the Study of New Orleans also leverages the city as a living classroom through which students, informed by the philosophy of cura personalis and guided by mentors, prepare to become the leaders of tomorrow.
