International Student Scholarship Banquet

The International Student Scholarship Banquet is ISA's biggest event in the Spring semester.  It's usually held in March.  The Scholarship fund was established in 2001 to assist students who perform well at Loyola, but who may have developed a financial need once they've arrived on campus.  Throughout the year we raise money for our scholarship fund which is awarded to enrolled international students on the basis of merit and a consideration of financial need.

Each year we select a theme and invite a speaker and performers that spotlight a particular geographic region or a specific area of interest.  In the past, the Middle East, Africa, and the Caribbean have been featured.  We also have a silent auction that showcases beautiful handicrafts from all over the world.  All ticket and silent auction sales benefit the International Scholarship Fund.

Incredible India - Spring 2008 Scholarship Banquet

The International Student Association and the Center for International Education would like to invite you to the 7th Annual International Student Scholarship Banquet on Friday, March 7 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the St. Charles Room.

Highlights of the banquet include a silent auction featuring international crafts and foods, an Indian feast and dancing presented by an Indian student dance troupe from Tulane. We are honored to have Neil Guidry, founder of the Louisiana Himalaya Association (LHA), as the keynote speaker. LHA is dedicated to helping Tibetan refugees who have fled their country to escape persecution. Guidry will give a presentation and slideshow focusing on LHA’s work in northern India, which involves facilitating a healthy transition for refugees and providing assistance as they work to rebuild their lives and preserve their culture.

Throughout the year, ISA raises money for the scholarship fund, out of which a scholarship is awarded to one enrolled international student each year. All proceeds will benefit the International Student Scholarship Fund developed to help international students who may need additional financial assistance once they enroll at Loyola. Currently, international students on F-1 student visas who develop a financial need after they arrive, as a result of devaluations in their currency, or because of world-wide or country specific economic problems are ineligible for any need based aid or U.S. government financial aid. In the hopes of addressing this need, the International Student Scholarship is a competitive scholarship based on both need and merit. The recipient of the Scholarship will be announced at the Banquet.

This year’s International Student Scholarship Banquet is a wonderful opportunity to support a great cause and to spend an enjoyable evening.

Tickets or Fees: Tickets are $15.00 per person or $100.00 for a table of 8.
