The Bridge Program
The Bridge Program allows students to begin taking their first year courses from mid-June through the last week in July. It also affords students the opportunity to experience life on campus while earning seven hours credit. The Bridge professors are outstanding members of the faculty and work closely with Academic Resource Center's professional staff to provide an excellent beginning in college. The Academic Resource Center also provides academic counseling and peer tutoring under the supervision of the professional staff. Students are admitted through the Office of Admissions.

2008 Bridge Program Lagniappe Schedule
Check-in will begin at 9 am in order to allow parents and students to enjoy the city and campus.
***Please note: Checking into the residence halls should take approximately 30 minutes. The check-in process for orientation will take five minutes or less.
The Lagniappe session will include some sessions specifically for Bridge students and parents. Bridge sessions for students are highlighted in red; Bridge sessions for parents are highlighted in blue
SUNDAY
9 am – Noon: Check in for Orientation in the Danna Student Center
Students and their families can check in for Loyola Lagniappe and their residence hall accommodations in the Danna Student Center. During this time, parents and students are encouraged to explore the campus, Audubon Park, or utilize the streetcar pass to take in the city.
Noon - 1 pm: Welcome and Luncheon
Join us for lunch in our St. Charles Room, Danna Center. Dr. M.L. “Cissy” Petty will welcome families to Loyola University New Orleans and our Loyola Lagniappe Program. Enjoy lunch with a current Loyola student or administrator.
1:15 - 1:45 pm: Icebreakers for Parents and Students
Students will join the Orientation Krewe Leaders for an icebreaking experience they won’t soon forget! You will meet your incoming classmates and learn something interesting about each of them.
Parents get to do icebreakers, too! Our Orientation Krewe Captains will lead parents through a variety of activities to introduce families to one another and find commonalities.
2 - 3 pm: English Writing Sample/Placement Test: All Bridge Students, Miller 114
The writing sample/test will be administered to all Bridge students. It will be used to place students who have not been placed into a class by their ACT/SAT scores and used by English professors as an initial writing sample for all Bridge students.
2 - 2:45 pm: Bridge Program Q & A Session for Parents, Monroe 157 ge Program Session for Paren
Parents will meet for a Question and Answer session about the Bridge Program with Sarah Mead Smith, Director, Derek Bridges, Assistant Director, Allison Cox, Academic Counselor, Dennis Montelibano, Academic Counselor, Gussie Glapion, Administrative Assistant, and Myndee Corkern, Secretary/Receptionist.
Patrick Bailey, Chief of University Police, will also give an overview of campus security and answer any questions parents may have. Chris Cameron, Director of Co-Curricular Programs, will explain the meal plan options and answer other questions relating to student activities.
3 - 5:45 pm: Bridge students meet for Bridge Registration Conferences with A.R.C. counselors in Academic Resource Center, Monroe 405. Students will be assigned to one of three groups for registration conferences. A list of names for each group will be posted in Monroe 405:
Group A: 3:00-4:00
Group B: 4:00-5:00
Group C: 5:00-5:45
3 - 4:30 pm: Bursar’s Office will be open to accept Bridge payments, 2nd floor of Marquette (tutors will be available in Monroe 405 to escort parents)
3 - 4:30 pm: Bridge Students go to ID Card/Parking Office in Biever to obtain their ID cards (tutors will be available in Monroe 405 to escort students to ID Card/Parking Office). Note: it is important for Bridge students to obtain their ID cards on Sunday.
5 pm: Streetcar Dinner Quest
Use your complimentary St. Charles Streetcar Voucher to see the city and find a place for dinner with your family. If you’re not sure where to go, ask one of the Krewe Leaders or administrators and we can point you in the right direction.
For those students whose parents are not attending Lagniappe, the Orientation Krewe Leaders will join you on your quest for dinner.
9 - 10 pm: Sweets and Satchmo’s (optional)
Join us in Satchmo’s for a special dessert reception featuring Loyola’s student jazz ensemble.
MONDAY
8 - 9:30 am: Continental Breakfast for Parents and Students
Parents and students can leisurely have breakfast or 'grab and go.' Parent meal tickets are available for purchase at orientation check-in
9:45 am: Bridge Classes Begin
10 - 10:45 am: Academic Dean’s Presentation for Parents
Each college dean will review the general academic requirements for their student’s college, as well as answer questions in regard to class scheduling.

11 - 11:45 am: Global Café Introductions for Students
A Global Café is a forum that encourages open and honest debate about current issues and topics. As part of the co-curricular experience, students engage in discussions with their peers and professionals to develop a greater understanding and implications of issues for the city, nation and world.
11 - 11:45 am: Student Panel for Parents
How will my student meet people? What’s residence hall life like? Can my student commute and still be involved? Current Loyola students will answer these questions and more during their panel discussions for families. Students from different organizations and involvement levels at Loyola share their stories.
11:30 am - 1 pm: Lunch in the Orleans Room
Students and their families are encouraged to lunch at their leisure. Parent meal tickets will be available for purchase at the orientation check-in.
1 pm: Bridge Students Attend Afternoon Bridge Classes
1 - 2:30 pm: “Quick Fire” Information for Parents
1 - 1:20 pm, 1:25 - 1:40 pm, 1:45 - 2:05 pm, 2:10 - 2:30 pm
Parents can attend any and all sessions in twenty minute rotation. Representatives from the following areas will present information and answer questions:

A representative from Campus Dining, Residential Life and Commuter Services will present on their services and answer any questions you may have.

These sessions will outline the safety and security measures implemented by Loyola to keep your student safe.

Learn about the study abroad opportunities at Loyola, and begin thinking about where your student would like to go.
Money Matters – MO 157
When will I get my tuition statement? How will the scholarships or financial aid my student has been awarded be applied? These questions and more will be answered in this session.
2:30 - 4 pm: Reception in the University Bookstore
The Loyola University Bookstore will host a reception for parents and students.
4:45 pm: Parents and Students should be checked-out of the Residence Halls

Q. What is the cost of the program?
A. Bridge students pay $2,100 for tuition and fees. For those who choose to live on campus, there is an added estimated cost of $655 for a room during the program. Payment is due by June 22, 2008 (the day the program begins). Students living on campus must purchase a summer meal plan. Plan A costs $600, while Plan B costs $755. Both plans cover meals during the week and on weekends. The added cost of Plan B allows students to purchase additional snacks.
Q. What is the normal daily schedule?
A. Most classes meet during the morning and early afternoon. The earliest classes begin around 9:30 a.m. and the last classes end at 3:30 p.m.
Q. When and where does the program actually begin and end?
A. All students must check in on Sunday, June 22, between 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. There will be orientation activities Sunday afternoon and evening, and all day Monday, June 23. Classes for the Summer Bridge Program will begin on Monday morning, June 23, 2008. The program ends with the last examination on Friday, July 25, 2008.
Q. Which university Preview Orientation Program do Bridge students attend?
A. As a participant in the Bridge Program, you will automatically be registered for the June Preview Orientation Program which coincides with the beginning of the Bridge Program. The day classes begin on the 23rd, students will attend classes and go to orientation sessions when they are not in class.
Q. What types of classes do Bridge students take?
A. Bridge students earn six credit hours for two core Common Curriculum courses and one credit hour for a college-level study strategies course called Protocols of Learning.
