Howard's Chartreuse
"Howard's Chartreuse" is a "6" to "7" cross of "Elderberry" X "Stormy Moon" hybridized by Gordon and Evely Howard. Registered with the Hibiscus Nomenclature in 1998, the flower is still relatively unknown in Texas and Louisiana. Nonetheless, the bloom prompts comment when it does appear at Shows. The red center stands out in the middle of greenish-brown petals that are 80% overlapped. The petals are ruffled, have a medium texture, and tend to reflex.
Unfortunately for us in humid New Orleans, summer is its least favorite season. Best blooms appear during cooler weather.
